NBC Sports Chicago is simulating the 2020 White Sox season via MLB The Show during the postponement of play. The White Sox, stocked with young talent and veteran offseason acquisitions, were expected to take a big step forward in their rebuild this season. Follow along as we play out the first few months of the season.

Result: White Sox def. Astros, 3-2
Record: 38-34, 2nd in A.L. Central (2.0 GB of Twins)

W: Dane Dunning (3-1)
L: Chris Devenski (3-3)
SV: Alex Colome (13)

Game summary: The excitement over the offseason acquisition of Yasmani Grandal has carried into the season as Grandal has been a massive boost for the White Sox offense. He hit his 27th home run of the season Sunday, giving the Sox a 3-2 lead in the eighth to help them take the series in Houston. His 27 home runs are tied for most in the American League with Anthony Rendon.

The pitching matchup was a battle of former teammates in Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel. Both were strong and only made one mistake — giving up two-run home runs. For Keuchel, it was George Springer; Verlander got punished by Eloy Jimenez, who tied the game at two in the third.

White Sox lineup:

Edwin Encarnacion: 1-4, BB (.321 BA)
Eloy Jimenez: 2-5, HR, 2 RBI (.256 BA)
Yoan Moncada: 0-3, 2 BB (.272 BA)
Yasmani Grandal: 1-4, HR, RBI (.309 BA)
Jose Abreu: 1-3, BB (.304 BA)
Tim Anderson: 1-4 (.286 BA)
Luis Robert: 0-3 (.237 BA)
Nick Madrigal: 0-3 (.261 BA)
Nomar Mazara: 1-4 (.262 BA)

Scoring summary:

Bottom second:

George Springer homered to left field, Jose Altuve scored. 2-0 HOU.

Top third:

Eloy Jimenez homered to left field, Edwin Encarnacion scored. 2-2.

Top eighth:

Yasmani Grandal homered to right field. 3-2 CHW.

Notable performance: Jimenez’ two-run home run in the third off Verlander was a laser to left field. His 24 home runs rank fourth in the AL and he leads the league in RBIs, continuing to put up impressive numbers in the first half of the season.

Next game: Tuesday, June 16 - Game 73: White Sox at Tigers (Dylan Cease, 3-6, 6.41 ERA vs Daniel Norris, 6-2, 2.09 ERA)
