RIVERSIDE — Concern over increases in COVID-19 cases and its impact on availability of intensive care hospital beds prompted the Riverside Police Department to announce Saturday it will again close its facilities to the public.

The latest closure will take effect Monday, police officials said.

Riverside police initially announced they were closing their buildings to the public on March 17 because of the virus. They had reopened as of May 21 for some in-person services.

The department on Saturday promised that officers, dispatchers and support staff would continue to respond to all calls for service, and encouraged the public to file reports online for crimes including vehicle burglary, theft, vandalism, lost property, trespassing, theft of utility services and illegal dumping.

Criminal reports can only be obtained by mail, and traffic reports will be available online.  Records requests are available by phone at 951-826-5700, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. except holidays.

No public requests for Livescan services or vehicle citation corrections will be taken until normal hours resume, police said.

Towed and/or repossessed vehicle and property releases will be done by appointment only at 951-351-6398 and 951-353-7650, respectively.

No police-regulated permits will be issued, but existing permits set to expire will be given an automatic grace period until normal hours resume, officials said.
