Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday the Senate will try to revive the Paycheck Protection Program when lawmakers return to Washington next week.
“When the full Senate returns on October 19th, our first order of business will be voting again on targeted relief for American workers, including new funding for the PPP,” he said in a statement.
Unless Democrats block the package, as they have done other Republican-backed narrow deals, McConnell said the Senate would have time to act on the forgivable loan program for small businesses and also confirm Amy Coney Barrett to be the next U.S. Supreme Court justice before the November 3 elections.
However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said in the past she will not advance piecemeal stimulus items, favoring instead more comprehensive approaches.
