RØDE has announced the AI-Micro, an ultra-compact dual-channel interface for recording high-quality audio to a smartphone, tablet or computer. Essentially, it is a reworked version of the SC6-L interface.
The AI-Micro was specifically designed to be a portable recording solution for mobile journalists and content creators. It can also be used by streamers, podcasters, and other professionals.
The RØDE AI-Micro features two auto-sensing inputs for connecting almost any microphone that has a 3.5mm output. There is also a headphone output that is claimed to deliver zero-latency audio monitoring and playback, as well as a universal USB output for use with both iOS and Android devices.
The AI-Micro is compatible with computers as well as mobile devices, which means you can use it for video calls and business presentations. It can also be used with the entire suite of RØDE apps for recording on any device
Key features OF THE AI-MICRO
- Ultra-compact dual-channel interface for recording high-quality audio on computers and mobile devices
- Compatible with virtually any microphone with a 3.5mm output, including RØDE VideoMics, lavaliers, wireless systems, and stereo microphones
- Auto-sensing inputs for connecting TRS or TRRS microphones
- High-power headphone output for crystal-clear, zero-latency audio monitoring and playback
- Connects seamlessly to computers, smartphones, and tablets via the universal USB output (USB-A, USB-C and Lightning cables supplied)
- Compatible with the entire RØDE app suite for expanded features and functionality, on-the-go configuration, and broadcast-quality recording on any device
RØDE’s intention with the AI-Micro was to take the core design of its popular SC6-L interface for iPhone and iPad and make it compatible with more devices and adaptable to a wider range of recording applications.
Two Microphone Inputs
The AI-Micro features two microphone inputs with high-quality preamps and can record high-resolution 24-bit/48kHz audio. These are auto-sensing inputs that detect whether a TRS or TRRS microphone is connected and automatically adapt to accommodate, meaning there is no need for adaptors.
Input 1 can also be configured as a single stereo TRS input. This means that virtually any microphone with a 3.5mm output can be connected to the AI-Micro, including RØDE VideoMics, lavaliers, wireless systems like the Wireless GO, and stereo microphones like the Stereo VideoMic Pro. It also has a high-power headphone output for zero-latency audio monitoring and playback.
Small Size & Weight
Weighing less than 20 grams, the AI-Micro is extremely compact and lightweight.
Wide Compatability with a range of devices
The AI-Micro connects to smartphones, tablets, and computers via its universal USB output. It is plug-and-play compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android devices, and comes with USB-A, USB-C, and Lightning cables.
RØDE App Suite
The AI-Micro can be used with the entire RØDE app suite, including RØDE Connect, RØDE Central, and RØDE Reporter. You can use any of these apps to make changes to features and functionality and to record broadcast-quality recordings on any device.
The interface is fully compatible with RØDE Connect, RØDE’s free podcasting and streaming software for Mac and Windows.
RØDE Central allows users to configure their AI-Micro on a computer or mobile device, including adjusting the input gain and headphone output level, switching between ‘Merged’, ‘Split’ and ‘Stereo’ channel mode, and engaging a high-pass filter.
The RØDE Reporter mobile app also allows complete device configuration, as well as broadcast-quality recording in the field.
Price & Availability
The RØDE AI-Micro is available now and retails for $130 AU.
