Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War is the next big thing in the CoD universe right now. With the end of the Modern Warfare era, Treyarch takes over with another Black Ops title. Black Ops: Cold War is a direct sequel to Black Ops 1. Since it is using a different engine than Modern Warfare, the feel and movement of the game are also completely different.

Black Ops: Cold War multiplayer reveal took place on September 9. Fans of the franchise got to experience what the next generation of CoD will be like. The reveal had pros and content creators play a few multiplayer games amongst themselves. We witnessed how the new Treyarch interface influenced different play styles in the game.

Gunsmith in Call Of Duty Cold War

Coming to first impressions, a lot has changed in the Gunsmith. Unlike Modern Warfare, players can now view exactly what percentage of change each attachment brings to a weapon. In Modern Warfare, it only said + or for every attachment, which was a bit ambiguous. Now, it is more specific, making each Gunsmith build overtly informative.

Adding to the five attachments that players could equip on a weapon, they will now be able to use the ‘Gunfighter’ wildcard to attach a total of eight attachments. This will allow them to build absolute beasts of meta primary weapons.

Secondly, a major change has been made to the perks system in CoD. ‘Ninja’ is back, allowing players to use stealth while decimating enemies. This will replace ‘Dead Silence’ from Modern Warfare, which is a rechargeable Field Upgrade.

Field Upgrades include Proximity Mine, SAM Turret, Jammer, and Field Mic. Scorestreaks also marks a return with this game. The available Scorestreaks in the alpha build are Spy Plane, Attack Helicopter, Artillery, RC-XD, Napalm Strike, Air Patrol, War Machine, and Chopper Gunner.

Gameplay in Black Ops: Cold War

Search and Destroy takes a dip in this version as a new 6v6 game mode is introduced. VIP Escort, on the first impression, did not impress most players. Mostly because it seemed too easy to complete the objective. All the enemy team needs to do is kill the VIP, and the round gets over. Since it takes a fair amount of time to get the VIP airlifted from the vantage points, players can just wait for that and shoot down the VIP to win.

Other than that, the gameplay seems to have returned to the one from the traditional Black Ops era. New players or Modern Warfare lovers might find the maps a bit disappointing as they lack the grandeur and finesse.

YouTuber Jackfrag mentioned in his video that the sound on most maps had seemed a little off. He also opined that the game lacked proper ambient noises.

Nonetheless, one point to keep in mind is that the game is currently in its alpha build and therefore is expected to get a lot better.

Right now, we await the beta release of the game, which will launch on October 8 for PS4. Xbox and PC will get their beta versions a few days later. Public beta is available for play only through pre-orders.
