Active COVID-19 cases are again declining in Bayonne, according to Mayor James Davis.
As of Oct. 7, there were 29 active cases, down from 38 as of Sept. 30. There is only one COVID-positive patient at Bayonne Medical Center as of Oct. 7, down from two on Sept. 30.
“As we move further into the fall season, we are seeing a decline in COVID cases in town and across the country,” Davis said in the weekly COVID-19 update. “Although these declines are an encouraging data point, we must keep our guard up as we have seen these declines follow with an uptick of cases.”
Davis said that the vaccine is the best protection against serious illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.
Get vaccinated
The city offers Pfizer vaccines on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first two doses of the Moderna vaccine are available on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents do not need appointments, and can walk in to the vaccine distribution site at the Korpi Ice Rink at Bayonne High School at 669 Avenue A.
Those who are qualified can get a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least four weeks after their second dose. Eligibility for third doses has expanded from just the immunocompromised to now include more at-risk residents, including those age 65 and older, younger adults with underlying health conditions and those in jobs that put them at high risk for COVID-19.

Most adults fully vaccinated
Davis applauded residents for getting vaccinated: “Fortunately, our community continues to take this important protective step.”
Approximately 83,000 doses have been administered so far. According Davis, 83 percent of the city’s adult population has been fully vaccinated. He added that the city is seeing an increase in 12- to 17-year-olds getting vaccinated, with over 63 percent receiving at least one dose.
COVID-19 testing is available at the Bayonne Community Museum at 229 Broadway. Both regular and rapid testing are available on Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment needed.
