Keyboards, mice, and other such controllers work great for standard computing tasks. At the same time, for some jobs, like changing a song’s volume or scrolling through video, a dedicated knob can be a really fantastic accessory. If you’d like such an input device in a stylish and functionally heavy form factor, check out this multimedia knob from JGJMatt.

The unit's main interface is a sizable knob, reminiscent of a silver hockey puck. This is attached to a rotary encoder, which is wired to an ATtiny85 Digispark-style board. The board connects to a PC via a sliced and soldered former micro USB cable, allowing it to send signals as an HID accessory.

While simple in function, what really sets this device apart is its ruggedly beautiful construction. It has no external buttons, which gives it very clean lines. Underneath the main knob, the base can be constructed via 3D-printing alone, or one can use the 3D-printed mold included in the writeup to cast it out of concrete. This not only adds to the looks of the device, but makes it heavy enough so that it doesn’t continuously slip around.

As a final touch, the device uses an LED and translucent disk to provide diffuse LED light under the interface knob. While it would take a bit of work to implement the concrete base style and beautiful paint job seen on the writeup, it looks like a great way to add a bit of elegance to your computing interface setup.
