Built to capture brilliance.
After stepping out with the latest version of Pro Tools late last week, Avid have pulled another rabbit out of the hat with Pro Tools | Carbon: an immensely powerful hybrid audio interface that combines native CPU with onboard DSP acceleration for mind-boggling results.
With a total of 24 inputs and 34 outputs, the Pro Tools | Carbon marks a huge launch for Avid, with the interface being billed as the perfect pairing with any Mac OS-based Pro Tools setup.
Featuring eight mic/line combo jack inputs on the back and two Variable Z instrument inputs on the front of the unit alongside LED visual monitoring, the Pro Tools | Carbon looks to provide a feature-packed alternative to Universal Audio’s acclaimed Apollo.
In addition to offering a four headphones outputs and a stereo output for studio monitors, the interface also boasts eight line inputs and outputs on DB25 connectors, while 16 additional inputs and outputs can be accessed via ADAT on four optical connectors. There’s also a Word Clock input and output on BNC connectors, while computer connection is provided courtesy of twin Ethernet connectors.
192kHz / 32-bit AD/DA conversion allows for pristine recording quality across a range of sources, while the interface’s eight onboard HDX DSP units delivers less than a millisecond of latency and realtime plug-in processing to make for a Pro Tools recording experience unlike any other.
Pro Tools | Carbon will also ship with a one year licence for Pro Tools standard, as well as a bunch of DSP and Native plug-ins from the likes of Brainworx, Arturia and Native Instruments to get you cooking up straight out of the box.
It’s certainly not a cheap option for recording, but there’s few interfaces on the market that punch as much of a punch as this thing does – we can’t wait to check it out!
