San Bernardino County’s Measure J losing again - San Bernardino County Sun

A ballot measure to change San Bernardino County’s charter is losing by 2,005 votes as of Monday, Nov. 9, after being ahead in the previous update.

As the county Registrar of Voters has updated the vote counts since Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 3, Measure J at first appeared to be narrowly losing, then narrowly winning, and again appears to be slightly behind now that 555,283 votes have been counted.

Countywide, about 229,000 more ballots remain to be counted. It’s unknown how many of those ballots include a vote on Measure J.

Measure J’s changes would require that the county maintain a discretionary stockpile of supplies and equipment for a disaster or emergency, that orders issued by the County Public Health Officer to the public at large be reviewed by the Board of Supervisors, and would remove outdated language such as presuming that the head of the board is male.

It would also change supervisors’ pay unless a competing proposal — Measure K, which has significantly more votes — goes into effect. Measure K would set supervisors’ pay and benefits combined at $60,000 and limit them to one term in office.

County officials say they will release more votes Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.
