For the second day in a row, the number of new COVID-19 cases topped 4,400, but even more of the tests came back positive, San Diego County officials reported Saturday.

The latest count — 4,427 — was slightly lower than Friday’s 4,478 tally. The count puts the number of cases in the county over the 160,000 mark. Nineteen percent of those who took the test came back with a positive result.

On average for the last two weeks, about 12 percent of the people who get a test in San Diego County get a positive result.

No new deaths were reported, a bit of relief after Friday’s report of 58 COVID-19 deaths.

Another 24 people were hospitalized; about 3.6 percent of all those who have contracted the virus have been hospitalized in the county.

The numbers tallied Friday but reported Saturday show 1,566 people are in hospital beds. Of that, 380 are in intensive care.
