Second Gen Nest Hub users are receiving a redesigned Pixel-like user interface - Chrome Unboxed

kembaliui.blogspot.com

Many individuals with a second-generation Nest Hub are now receiving an updated and redesigned, Pixel phone-like user interface. In place of the traditional Home Control view, the top of the screen can now be swiped down to reveal a quick settings-style set of tiles for controlling your lights, cameras, and other smart home devices.

Additionally, swiping up from the bottom of the screen will reveal the Android and chromeOS-style app drawer that was recently introduced to a smaller subset of users. These changes bring the Nest Hub and by extension, Google’s Fuchsia operating system visually closer in line with the company’s other offerings.

With a detachable tablet-style Nest Hub likely on its way later this year, it makes sense for Google to redesign the interface to act and look more like a traditional Android or chromeOS tablet as it will be utilized more casually around the home.

Sadly, the new design is accompanied by an unfortunate bug where the Nest Hubs that are receiving it are stuck in an infinite boot loop. At random times, users are being thrust into the standard boot screen with the four Google-colored dots. Unable to pass this screen, the only thing that fixes it is a hard reset by unplugging the device and plugging it back into the wall.

9to5Google states that those with the redesigned interface are running version 1.56.290464 of the firmware and that the update may come with a software update instead. I’m excited to see the Nest Hub evolve over time, and if anyone does receive this over the next few days, let us know in the comments below!
