By Abhik Sengupta: The Nothing Phones (2)'s design has been officially revealed after weeks of rumours and speculations. The smartphone was highlighted in a video by popular YouTuber MKBHD, and we can notice a new "Glyph Interface" on the back, which is made of 33 LED lighting zones controllable by software instead of 12 LEDs on the Phone (1). The updated Glyph module uses more LED lights to leave more room for customisation. The video also highlights the smartphone's soft-curved edges instead of the sharp flat edges of the last Nothing smartphone. The same design was teased by Nothing last month.

The YouTuber also points out that the Glyph Interface is more customisable and versatile than the last-gen model. This year, the LED lights on the Nothing Phone (2) can be customised based on different apps. For instance, these lights can help users track orders on select apps like Zomato and Uber. The light basically starts to fade once the order is closer to your notification. The feature takes inspiration from Live Activities on iOS, though that works on the display. The video points towards a new Essential Notification setting. With this setting, users can make a dedicated LED stay lit up based on the chosen app's notification. The LED stays lit until the user checks the particular app's notification.
Nothing revealed that users could create their ringtone, which was also shown in the YouTube video. Users can also customise the LED lights on the back with the ringtone. Nothing is still using white LED lights, and there's no option to change the colour.
Overall, there's nothing dramatically different between Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2) in terms of design, but the Glyph module is more customisable. Nothing had confirmed its new smartphone features more recycled materials and a taller display. The battery size has also been increased to 4,700mAh from 4,500mAh, though the charging technology remains more or less similar. Another big highlight of the smartphone is the addition of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a considerable upgrade over the first-gen model. While Nothing has not teased camera or performance details, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC unlocks a host of capabilities. From video to better battery, customers can expect some big upgrades.
The Phone (2) will ship with Nothing OS 2.0, likely based on Android 13. Based on the specifications and features, we can expect the smartphone to cost above Rs 40,000. The Phone (2) launches on July 11 at 8:30 PM IST.
