SynthFest France 2024: L1V3 is a new fully programmable 5-in/5-out MIDI box interface with a super brain from France.
The Superbooth in Berlin is a huge event with over 200 developers in every edition. It’s easy to forget to cover upcoming releases. But it’s good that there are more cozy, smaller synth events like SynthFest France, where you can catch up on such products.
Last year at Superbooth 23, Pascal from L1V3 showed off his exciting new MIDI interface. A quick look at Google reveals that almost no media outlet has covered it. Ok, let’s catch up on that.
L1V3 MIDI Box
The MIDI standard is more than just note on/off, pitch, velocity, aftertouch, etc. It’s much more capable. The new MIDI box/interface from French developer Pascale makes many things possible.
L1V3 has five MIDI inputs and four outputs plus a USB host port. Every input and output is fully programmable with the web editor. It’s nice that it doesn’t require internet access. The hardware hosts the editor itself. A teaser of it is already available on the official website.
The user customizations go very deep. Filtering, splits, layers, MIDI channel routing, etc., are all possible. I asked Pascal what the difference is between the other available MIDI boxes. One of the advantages is the processing of SysEx data, which products like the Blokas have not yet been able to do.
Another exciting aspect is the open-source nature of the functions. In addition to factory preset functions, users can code their own functions in the L1V3 and share them with the community. According to Pascale, the editor needs to be connected to the Internet to access them.
First Impression
This new MIDI box is currently still in development. Currently in beta phase. All possible functions are not yet known but hope he will publish more about it. At first glance, it looks like a fascinating MIDI interface. I hope to see it soon on the market.
L1V3 MIDI Box will be available at the end of the year /early 2025 for an estimated price of 200-300€
