On Tuesday, Tesla announced the feature-packed "Spring Release," with the highlight being a new user interface. The V12 user interface brings expanded Autopilot visualizations and changes inspired by the Cybertruck UI. The update comes to the Tesla fleet as the 2024.14 software update, with a long list of new features and optimizations.
Tesla's over-the-air updates have been praised by its customers and copied by competing carmakers, although nobody comes close to Tesla's expertise. The EV maker maintains an intricate web of software branches, each receiving different updates and features. This is necessary because not only are its vehicles different, but also the owners, with some testing cutting-edge builds while others enjoying the stability of slower-updating builds.

The latest iteration of Tesla software is 2024.14, and it might just merge the 2024.3 branch (cutting-edge features, including FSD V12) with the tamer 2024.8 branch. Although this is far from certain at this point, the fact that Tesla chose it for the massive Spring Update seems to confirm that it would land on most customer vehicles. Tesla owners have dreamed of unified software for a long time, although Tesla keeps forking its software and bringing new branches.

The Spring Update was announced on Tuesday, as the 2024.14 software started internal testing with Tesla employees. The most important changes concerned the user interface, which is now more "Cybertruck-esque," with new full-screen visualizations for Tesla EVs with AMD Ryzen processors. Tesla offered a few pictures, but we now have more videos from people testing the 2024.14 software.

The V12 user interface should not be confused with FSD V12, which might not be offered with 2024.14. While Tesla signaled that it would rebase the FSD software on newer builds like 2024.8, we still have no idea when (if) the latest FSD builds will be included with the 2024.14 software. We already talked about the new user interface, but nothing is as good as seeing it in person or, at least, in a video.

We know why people were so impressed by the new interface, thanks to Tesla testers who shared the images on social media. The best part is that European customers also get a taste of it, this being the first time Tesla brought full-screen visualizations outside North America. It will not require FSD or Enhanced Autopilot and seems quite detailed, being able to display the surrounding vehicles' turn signals and brake lights. The update also relocates the energy bar to the left in a vertical position.

According to the full release notes, there are more changes in the 2024.14 update than previously announced. These include automatic rerouting to a faster route if one becomes available during driving and improved wiper controls via the scroll wheel. The update also improved the information displayed on the rear screen, which now turns off if no passengers are in the back to minimize energy use.
