Report: One week after photos, Haskins to start again in Washington originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Just one week after a brazen COVID-19 violation that cost him $40,000 and his spot as a captain of the Washington Football Team, Dwayne Haskins will start at quarterback for his team's game against Carolina.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Washington ruled out veteran QB Alex Smith as he continues to struggle with a calf strain on his surgically repaired right leg, and without Smith, Haskins gets the start.
This marks the second straight start for Haskins.
Last week in a 20-15 loss to Seattle, Haskins threw for 295 yards and one touchdown to go with a pair of interceptions.
It was a wild week for the second-year passer as photos emerged of Haskins on social media showing him maskless at a party on Sunday night, hours after the loss to Seattle. 24 hours later, Haskins publicly apologized for the incident and for letting his team down.
The NFL's COVID-19 protocols do not allow for players to attend parties, and it's possible Haskins could have been suspended. Instead, Rivera opted to fine Haskins and remove his captaincy.

Now Haskins will start the most important game of his NFL career.
If the Giants lose to the Ravens, Washington will have a chance to clinch the NFC East title with a win over the Panthers. The same Panthers team that fired Rivera last season.
