In the final minutes of the Cowboys’ 34-17 loss to the Ravens on Tuesday night, Troy Aikman tore the franchise down in a brutally honest moment in which he wondered where this organization goes from here because it has so many issues to be fixed in the offseason.

As he spoke, Fox Sports started playing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s classic song “Tuesday’s Gone” as they showed sad Cowboys defenders sitting on the bench before going to commercial.

It was all so perfect and all so sad for a franchise the continues to be thrust upon is in primetime slots because lots of people watch and they often see lots of Cowboys losses.

This Cowboys team has become like so many other Cowboys teams in the past – totally irrelevant to the bigger picture of the NFL and the race for the playoffs and the Super Bowl.

The loss to Baltimore drops the Cowboys to 3-9 and while the NFC East is definitely gross this year, there just can’t be a way in which this listless Dallas team can contend for a division title down the stretch.

Let’s look at the NFC East for a second, shall we?

In Week 13, Colt McCoy led the Giants to a win over the Seahawks in Seattle.

In Week 13, Alex Smith led Washington to a win over the previously unbeaten Steelers in Pittsburgh.

In week 13, the Eagles, well, they stunk.

In Week 13, Andy Dalton and all the experience he has as a starting QB couldn’t lead the Cowboys to a win over the Ravens.

The success of McCoy and Smith means you can save it with any talk about the Cowboys missing their starting QB. Yes, missing Dak Prescott is brutal for Dallas in the overall picture. But Dalton still could have done something against the Ravens.

Instead, the Cowboys often looked lost on defense and couldn’t do enough on offense to pose any serious threat to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.

This franchise hasn’t been a factor in the race for the Super Bowl for quite some time. They haven’t won a divisional round playoff game since the 1995 season, which is also when they last played in the Super Bowl.

Over the years they have had a number of seasons that began with such high expectations, only to see those seasons end well before Week 17.

Here they are again and, as Aikman said, who knows how they even start to fix this thing.
