Supervisor Ed Romaine has announced that the Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau INTERFACE program's 2020 Holiday Toy Drive provided toys for 1,181 families in need, including 6,337 children. More than 72 businesses and clubs, including JVC Broadcasting and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club LI Chapter NY-25 held events or collected toys at locations across Brookhaven Town.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the annual Red Knights Motorcycle Club and JVC Broadcasting Toy Drives were held as drive-up/drop-off events in the Brookhaven Town Hall parking lot. The JVC event featured on-air personalities from all five JVC Broadcasting radio stations, including My Country 96.1, LI News Radio 103.9, LaFiesta 98.5, Oldies 98.1 and Party 105.3.
Supervisor Romaine said, "Although this was a very different Toy Drive than in years past, we were able to collect enough toys to help many Brookhaven families in need have a much happier holiday. Even during this pandemic, kind-hearted residents made the effort to donate thousands of toys and I thank all who worked tirelessly to help make our Toy Drive so successful."
Councilman Michael Loguercio, the Town Board Liaison to the Youth Bureau, said, "At a time when so many Brookhaven residents are struggling to make ends meet, it's great to see such an outpouring of generosity during the holiday season. I thank our Youth Bureau, JVC, the Red Knights and all the people who collected and donated toys in the true spirit of the holiday season."
The Youth Bureau INTERFACE program is a partnership between individuals, good corporate neighbors and the Town of Brookhaven united in a common effort to provide help to Brookhaven's less fortunate residents. It provides goods and services to those in need and addresses social issues.
