George W. Bush has now arguably delivered more standout lines at two presidential inaugurations that were not his own as he did at the two, in 2001 and 2005, that were.
Four years ago, reportedly, Bush shared a quotably folksy assessment of Donald Trump’s inaugural address — an oration frequently referred to as the “American carnage” speech. And on Wednesday, according to Rep. Jim Clyburn, a longtime friend of President Joe Biden’s and by most accounts the man whose Biden endorsement turned the tide of the Democratic primaries, Bush had this encapsulation:
“ ‘You know, you’re the savior, because if [the Democratic Party] had not nominated Joe Biden we would not be having this transfer of power today.’ ”
