Good news, Houston. You no longer have to boil your water, as Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Sunday afternoon the city-wide boil-water notice has been lifted.
"We have been given the all clear," Turner said.
MYTHBUSTING: Don't believe this FEMA rumor, follow these steps for relief instead
The city had been under a boil-water notice since Wednesday when the water pressure dropped below the required minimum set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. When water pressure is low, there's a chance bacteria could form in the water supply.
Water pressure, which was hit hard by last week's extremely cold temperatures, is back to normal and has been tested and ruled safe to drink again.
To be on the safe side, you should run your water for at least one minute to bring clean water into the taps and dump the ice in your ice maker and have it make at least three batches before using the ice.
As for those outside the Houston city limits, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says those residents should check with their local utility district or city before drinking water without boiling.
"Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to the millions dealing with burst pipes," Hidalgo tweeted. "This is not a disaster we will recover from overnight but we will continue to overcome together as a community. Be sure to check in on your neighbors during this challenging time."
