The Unified Health Interface aims to create an open, interoperable platform for connecting all digital health solutions.
The National Health Authority (NHA) has released a consultation paper on the Unified Health Interface (UHI) aimed at becoming an open and interoperable platform for connecting all digital health solutions.
The consultation paper provides an overview of the proposed design, scope, and role of UHI. Comments from the general public are sought to ensure that UHI is designed and developed in a collaborative and consultative manner in the light of the future national expansion of NDHM.
Through UHI, NDHM aims to transform the way digital medical services are delivered in India. Currently, patients and healthcare providers must use the same application to access and deliver digital healthcare services, respectively. The open network created by UHI is expected to act as a digital infrastructure for patients and healthcare providers to engage in the discovery, booking, payment, and performance of various digital healthcare services throughout the application. Services include, but are not limited to, remote counseling and pharmacy and hospital discoveries. Over time, the services provided by the platform will evolve with the ecosystem of the market. UHI is designed similar to the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) ecosystem that has emerged for digital payments.
Dr. RS Sharma, CEO of the National Health Authority, commented on the consultation paper: To facilitate this, we have adopted a consulting approach to develop the National Digital Health Ecosystem. We devised the concept of Unified Health Interface (UHI), which was designed in a line similar to UPI (Unified Payment Interface), which revolutionized the digital payment and financial sectors. We encourage all stakeholders to read the shared consultation papers and provide valuable feedback in order to achieve inclusiveness and broaden the horizons of the table. “
Since the launch of the NDHM pilot in six Union Territories in August 2020, multiple discussions have been held with various stakeholder groups on various components to discuss design and adoption. .. NDHM will continue to engage with this stakeholder, ensuring that development is comprehensive and incorporates diverse perspectives from the stakeholders involved.
