AUSTIN, TX — The big news related to Tesla, of course, came in July when the carmaker announced its plans to build a automotive plant in the Austin area. Now comes news the company is building a new video game, software and user interface to be based locally as well, according to a published report.
The blog called Electrek found multiple job listings apart from the planned auto plant showing such plans. This is in adition to the dozens of job listings related to building the new automaking facility dubbed a Gigafacgtory. Among some of those other job listings:
- Video Games Engineer, Infotainment Software.
- Software Engineer, Mobile.
- Software Engineer, Vehicle User Interface (C++).
- Rendering Engineer, Software Infotainment.
Tesla revealed its cards as to the reason for filling those positions via its career website:
Tesla strives to make its cars the most fun possible; bringing video game experiences to the car helps increase that fun. In this incredibly rare opportunity to help build a video games platform, we are looking for a highly motivated software engineer to help enable the best video game content to be available in-car. Come put that industry experience to great use and help us build this platform.
Electrek noted heightened intrigue over Tesla's video-game-making plans given that that company already is building a relatively new video game team in Bellevue, Washington. That video game platform is called Tesla Arcade meant for inside its vehicles, Electrek reports, and the company has been working with video game studios to port games to it.
Previous coverage:
Tesla previously disclosed plans to build a $1.1 billion auto assembly plant in eastern Travis County, creating 5,000 local jobs. After previously securing tax incentives to spur its plans, Tesla said it would build the plant on 2,100 acres of land off Texas 130 and Harold Green Road. Travis County Commissioners Court and the Del Valle ISD trustees — each representing taxing jurisdictions in the future plant's midst — previously approved tax breaks to further coax Tesla to build locally.
