A Solano County Superior Court judge once again has reset proceedings for a 35-year-old Fairfield man accused of fatally stabbing another man in October in a Fairfield park.
Jason Moran Thomas, who has pleaded not guilty and denied all allegations, was scheduled to appear Thursday in Department 1 for a readiness conference and to set a preliminary, but Judge Jeffrey C. Kauffman ordered him to return at 8:30 a.m. June 3 for the same matters in the Justice Center in Fairfield.
The Solano County District Attorney’s Office filed its complaint and provided the suspect’s record of arrests and prosecutions on Oct. 14.
Thomas, who remains in Solano County Jail without bail, is represented by the Alternate Public Defender.
Fairfield police reported that around 5:30 a.m. Oct. 9, police and firefighter/paramedics responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the area of Boynton and Beck avenues.
The victim, who was eventually identified as Davey Mathews, 41, of Fairfield, was found and taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery but later died of his wounds.
Meanwhile, officers found witnesses at a homeless encampment near the Linear Park Trail at Beck Avenue.
“Based on witness accounts and a statement made by the victim prior to dying, a suspect was identified,” Fairfield police officials said in a press statement.
Around 11:45 a.m., Thomas was taken into custody on the Linear Trail and the weapon used in the attack was found later.
Police said a feud between the men fueled the violence.
Just after 2:15 p.m., Thomas was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of a single count of first-degree murder.
