U.S. Capitol Police say there is a “possible plot” from a militia group to breach the Capitol again on Thursday.
The statement released by police says they have intelligence the plot is linked to a far-right conspiracy promoted by supporters of QAnon.
The conspiracy theory says President Trump will rise to power again on March 4, the original Inauguration Day until it was changed to Jan. 20 in 1933.
The statement from Capitol Police contradicts a statement sent to Congress this week by the acting House sergeant-at-arms. That report said there was “no indication that groups will travel to Washington D.C. to protest or commit acts of violence.”
Many Facebook and Twitter accounts that helped promote and organize the Jan. 6 riots have been suspended, which is expected to make it more difficult for groups to organize.
Defense officials are testifying at a Senate hearing on Wednesday about how long it took The National Guard to respond to the Capitol riot.
The former chief of Capitol Police and former sergeants at arms blame the Defense Department for not acting fast enough.
But during hearings last week, they seemed uncertain about the process of requesting that help.
The Pentagon says National Guard members aren’t first responders so they can’t immediately respond to a situation.
The request for troops in D.C. has to go through several people, including the president.
