In recent times, smartwatches have seen an exponential increase in the number of takers. They have become increasingly popular owing to their highly utilitarian features. I am an avid watch lover and seldom step outside without my wristwatch. However, recently, I switched from a regular watch to a smartwatch.

I tried the Boult Rover watch for a few weeks and here are my thoughts about the smartwatch. An important quality of any smartwatch is its ability to effortlessly connect to your smartphone. It should let you access an array of notifications right on the tiny screen of your watch and stay connected on the go.

Boult Rover: What you get

The Boult Rover comes with a large round dial, a breakaway from the regular square dial spotted on most smartwatches these days. It has a 1.3” AMOLED display which offers crisp visuals enhancing the readability of the device and also comes with 600 nits high brightness. The large display offers a gamut of colours with exceptional clarity.

Considering the large dial, there were some initial concerns that I may end up scratching the surface or that it would give in to the wear and tear of the daily routine. However, the display is as crisp as it was the day I opened the box and it has zero scratches. Being a first-time user of a smartwatch, I was sceptical about accessing smartphone apps on the watch. But after using the Boult Rover with both an iPhone and an Android device, I found the experience to be satisfactory.

The device runs on Android OS and Boult claims that it offers a battery life of up to 10 days. Bluetooth calling and voice assistant are among other notable features. The Boult Rover comes with a 1-year warranty. The device comes with a magnetic pin charger that takes nearly 2 hours to fully charge.

The device also features a range of sensors including health monitors, fitness trackers, steps monitors, workout records, activity data, etc. As part of my regular routine, I walked for nearly 45 minutes and the smartwatch tracked the steps. The results were not great, but fairly decent.

An all-weather smartwatch

The Boult Rover comes with IP68 offering protection from dust and water to some extent. I wore the watch while it was drizzling, and it functioned just about perfectly.

The box comes with a charging cable and two additional straps. The smartwatch features two physical buttons on the right side, one for the menu and another to pick different modes. It comes with a host of interesting watch faces for one to choose from.

To make the most of the smartwatch, users will need to download the BoultTrack app. When it comes to the interface, surprisingly, the Boult Rover came with a very fluid experience. The bright colours and effortless navigation through apps and settings made the experience fun.

The capability of making and receiving calls via Bluetooth came as an advantage. The smartwatch comes with two tiny speaker grills that can give enough sound impact to make and receive calls. The watch can also play songs from your smartphone via its inbuilt speaker. It is to be noted that enabling Bluetooth calling can impact battery life.
