Neurable had revealed plans for brain-computer interface (BCI) headphones. Neurable creates brain-enabled control directed towards virtual and augmented reality. The headphones are similar to previous products designed to learn from human movement and predict intent.

This idea was proposed by the product lead, Dr. Ramses Alcaide. He was inspired by his uncle’s successful engineering of his prosthetic legs following a horrific automobile accident. After the incident, Alcaide realized the usefulness of technology that could assist users with physical mobility.

Alcaide observed the discrepancy between the abilities of prosthetics versus brain reading technology. Eventually, his observations influenced his decision to develop technology capable of directly interacting with the human brain in real-time.

Neurable now has announced the official pre-order of Enten- their first pair of headphones capable of BCI. The headphones work off the knowledge that most humans have only two to three hours of high daily productivity. The device aids users manage time by suggesting break periods to maximize focus throughout the day. The most important feature is that the headphones utilize active controls to automatically silence notifications while busy and passive controls to minimize distractions.

These headphones utilize more than a decade of neuroscience research originating from Alcaide’s Ph.D. studies. He pitches this device as the first set of headphones built from scratch for daily practical use. Enten’s BCI sensors are made from cloth. Thus it is easier to move on and off the wearer’s head than the generic EEG sensors found in a lab.

The BCI headphones will consist of the same features as regular headphones currently used for common audio purposes. However, these new headphones also provide the user insight into how their brain functions. Neurable wants Enten to be the neurotechnology device that proves to be the most feasible and relevant to user activities.

Alcaide believes that he and his team are genuinely prioritizing the users with this product rather than simply doing innovation for the sake of innovation. Neurable aims to use BCI and similar technology to help people worldwide solve real-life problems. Thus, the team plans to develop devices that can support users with these problems in an automated way, allowing people to go about their days without overthinking and losing time towards productivity.
