Topline
There have been plenty of young pop phenoms over the years, but never one like Olivia Rogrido (and the stats back it up)—here's how Rodrigo just made history by having Good 4 U debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, leading the way after a week that brought a record amount of hit new music across the industry.
Key Facts
Rodrigo is now the first artist to ever start a career with her first three singles in the top 10 on the Hot 100 chart, according to Billboard.
Good 4 U joins Rodrigo's Deja Vu, which debuted at No. 8 in April, and Drivers License, which debuted at No. 1 in January and held the top spot for eight weeks—by far the longest stretch of any song this year.
All of those songs are featured on her debut album, Sour—marking another first, Billboard said.
That album was released earlier this week but hasn't debuted on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the first debut album to ever have two No. 1 singles released before the album appears on the charts itself.
But it wasn't just Rodrigo making history with new music: five new songs debuted in the top 10 on the Hot 100 chart this week, which Billboard says is the most ever for one week.
Four of them were released by one artist—J. Cole—all from his album The Off-Season, which ranked number one on the Billboard 200 chart this week.

Big Number
43.2 million. That's how many U.S. streams Good 4 U picked up during the week ending May 23, according to Billboard. The song also clocked 3.8 million radio airplay impressions and at least 12,000 downloads. All are factors Billboard takes into account to come up with its Hot 100 chart.
Key Background
Rodrigo, 18, first became known through her acting roles on the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark and the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. But it's music that's taken her fame to another, unprecedented level. Just days after Drivers License was released on Jan. 8, it was shattering Spotify streaming records and quickly becoming a fixture for TikTok videos. As for what's behind her musical choices, Rodrigo cites Taylor Swift, Lorde and the "Twilight" soundtrack as inspiration. Writing for Vulture, music critic Craig Jenkins says Rodrigo "studied all the right moves," while the album takes its sound from "a smart juxtaposition of a decade of developments in and adjacent to popular music." Jenkins said it also likely owes a lot of success to a tried and true staple of Swift's music: relationships that are going well ... until they're not.
