On Memorial Day in New Yankee Stadium, Rich Hill and the boys continued their winning ways against the scuffling Yankees (you hate to see it) with a 3-1 win. The win improved the Rays to 15 games over .500. The boys in Columbia blue have won 16 of their last 17.
Backing Rich Hill was an interesting lineup.

First Inning
Both teams were aggressive in the early going, with Tallion sitting down the side on 11 pitches in the first. Meanwhile, Rich Hill put the Yankees down on just six pitches, despite giving up a long single to Judge.
Second Inning
The Rays worked some longer at bats in the second, but only managed a Diaz walk (No Perfect Game!).
Hill worked another efficient inning, working around a pair of two out singles from Andùjar and Higashioka. He escaped the jam with a well located fastball to Gardner, who grounded out to second.
Third Inning
KK broke up the no hitter with lined single to center. Margot followed by doubling into the right field corner. KK got a great read and scored from first, with an assist from a sloppy relay from the Yankees.
1-0 Rays!
A productive out from Lowe moved Margot to third. Randy’s fly to right was not deep enough to score Margot, and Choi flew out to right to end the threat.
Hill was on his way to cruising through his turn, until Choi dropped a two out foul pop from Judge. Judge nearly took advantage of the second chance, hitting a deep fly toward the short porch in right. Thankfully, the park barely held it, with Margot making the grab in front of the wall.
Fourth Inning
On the first pitch of the fourth, Meadows did what Judge couldn’t, lifting a high fly into the first row in right.
It was a ball that would have been a homer in exactly one park: this one. Nevertheless, 2-0 Rays!
Hill worked a scoreless fourth, and despite giving up a two out walk to Odor, his pitch count was still in fine shape at 45, with 31 going for strikes.
Fifth Inning
Kiermaier led off with a double to the base of the wall in left center. With one out, Lowe grounded to second, moving KK to third. Arozarena followed by grounding a single through the left side, scoring Kiermaier.
3-0 Rays!
A Randy steal and a Choi walk followed, but the Rays couldn’t add on as Meadows liner to center was run down by Gardner.
In the bottom of the frame, Hill issued a one-out, four pitch walk to Gardener. The defense behind Hill picked him up with a nifty 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Sixth Inning
Leading off the inning, Diaz grounded the first pitch to short, which Torres proceeded to throw away, allowing Yandy to reach on the error. Walls followed by working a walk, and that was the end of the road for Taillon. Boone gave the ball to the lefty Lucas Luetge? To face RH Mike Zunino? Well that’s a choice I guess.
Luetge made his manager look smart by fanning Zunino. KK then grounded out to second, advancing the runners. Margot couldn’t get them in this time, as his hard liner to center was caught by Gardner.
Despite working smoothly and efficiently, Hill was out after five. No runs, three hits, two walks, two strikeouts. Michael Wacha came on to protect the lead.
Wacha kept the good vibes going, sitting down the meat of the Yankees lineup in order on seven pitches.
Seventh Inning
The Rays went in order in the top of the frame, including a couple strikeouts. It was sharp outing for Luetge.
With two outs, Miguel Andùjar put the Yankees on the board, hitting a solo shot out to right. Just like Austin’s homer, NYS is the only park that ball would have been a homer. 3-1 Rays.
That was the end of the day for Wacha. 1.2 innings, a run off just one hit.
Pete Fairbanks took the ball. Sánchez pinch hit for Higashioka and drew a five pitch walk. Gardner followed and worked an eight pitch at bat, with Fairbanks striking him out on an ugly swing at a 3-2 slider toward the top of the zone.
Eighth Inning
Wandy Peralta got the call for the Yankees, and Meadows greeted him with line drive single to left. Meadows was erased on a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Diaz. Walls then struck out swinging, and this game feels uncomfortably tight.
Ryan Thompson took over for Fairbanks, and worked a master class against the top of the Yankee lineup. He struck out LeMahieu with an elevated 94 mph four seamer, struck out Stanton on a slider away, then worked ahead of Judge with a couple sinkers at the bottom of the zone before getting him to fly out to center.
Ninth Inning
Luis Cessa got the ninth for the Yankees and set down the Rays in order.
J.P. Feyereisen took over for the Rays in the ninth. After retiring the first two hitters — including a (gasp) fly ball to right — Odor doubled up the right field line, bringing the tying run to the plate. Feyereisen kept his composure, fanning Andùjar on a slider at the knees.
